Agriculture

Objective

Konbit Lakay aims to revitalize Haiti’s rural economy by activating 10,000 carreaux of agricultural land, subdivided into 1/5 carreau parcels (~1,290 m²), organized into cooperatives with direct access to the Devlopman Mache Lakay (DML) distribution network. The program promotes food sovereignty, rural employment, and territorial stability by integrating farming, fishing, and agro-industrial development.

Strategic Components

1. Land Regulation and Activation

  • Conduct a national land audit to identify underused or disputed plots

  • Recover land through fair purchase or temporary expropriation

  • Convert idle land into productive agricultural zones

  • Enforce zoning laws to prevent non-agricultural construction and urban sprawl

2. Cooperative Parcel System

  • Create modular cooperatives with 1/5 carreau units

  • Prioritize trained youth, women, and rural residents

  • Enable private landowners to lease land to Konbit Lakay for cooperative redistribution

  • Specialized cooperatives will focus on:

    • Greenhouse farming for year-round production

    • Animal farming (cattle, goats, poultry)

    • Agro-processing (milling, drying, packaging)

    • Seed production and nursery development

3. Fisheries and Aquatic Development

  • Establish coastal and inland fishing cooperatives

  • Provide modern and seafaring fishing boats, safety training, and equipment

  • Support sustainable aquaculture integrated into cooperative land models

Vision Statement

Konbit Lakay is more than an agricultural initiative—it is a national movement to reclaim Haiti’s rural potential, restore dignity to farming and fishing communities, and build a sovereign economy rooted in land and sea. By combining land reform, cooperative enterprise, and agro-industrial strategy, the program offers a pathway to food independence, economic justice, and territorial resilience.
